Barnsley FC to hold open top bus parade!

Fans encouraged to paint the town red on Wednesday after promotion to the Sky Bet Championship!

Get ready to paint the town red, Barnsley fans, as we celebrate the Super Reds’ promotion to the Championship with an open top bus parade through the town centre.

Barnsley Council and Barnsley FC are inviting Reds fans into town at 6.30pm on Wednesday 8 May 2019 to celebrate their automatic promotion from League One / their League One title win and promotion.

Barnsley secured promotion on Tuesday night after Sunderland and Portsmouth both lost their respective matches – leaving them unable to catch the Reds in the league table.

The bus will leave Oakwell at around 6.30pm, before travelling along Pontefract Road, Schwäbisch Gmünd Way, Eldon Street and Market Hill before arriving at Barnsley town hall.

From there the players – along with Head Coach Daniel Stendel – will be welcomed into the town hall by the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Steve Green, before they take to the balcony to speak to fans about their heroics this season.

Barnsley fans are encouraged to help paint the town a sea of red by bringing flags, banners and wearing their team colours.

Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Steve Green, said: “We’re over the moon that the Super Reds have secured promotion to the Championship – it has been a fantastic season and the players and Head Coach have been terrific.

“We hope that there will be a sea of supporters in the town centre on Wednesday to show the Tykes how proud Barnsley is of them.”

Barnsley Head Coach Daniel Stendel was delighted after securing promotion and is looking forward to seeing plenty of fans in the town centre to celebrate.

“This is a big achievement for us, we have achieved our goal of automatic promotion. We have one game to go and the focus remains on that, but after Saturday we know we can celebrate properly with our fans too. Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way and to help arrange our celebrations. We are looking forward to seeing everyone.”
