Kevin Pilkington Joins The Reds!

5 July 2019

Daniel Stendel has appointed a new goalkeeper coach to his staff.

We are delighted to announce that 45-year-old Kevin Pilkington has joined the club as a goalkeeper coach, departing Cambridge United.

Pilkington has a wealth of footballing experience, accumulating over 400 professional appearances across the Premier League and the English Football League.

Beginning his playing career with Manchester United, the new coach was schooled through the wisdom of Sir Alex Ferguson during the famous 1990’s. After the ‘keeper left United, he went on to feature prominently for Mansfield Town and Notts County where he made over 150 appearances with each.

Upon joining Daniel Stendel’s coaching staff, Pilkington told barnsleyfc.co.uk he was excited to be at a Sky Bet Championship club.

He said: "I got a call from Barnsley saying they were interested and it’s an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. This is a big club with a good tradition and one that did well last season, so the chance to work in the Championship is what we’re all after. Everyone wants to progress our careers and hopefully this is part of it for me, I am excited to be here and I am looking forward now to working with the excellent 'keepers we have here."
