On Friday evening, a Barnsley FC XI will take on Athersley Rec in a pre-season friendly as Martin Devaney continues to evaluate his squad ahead of the 2019/20 PDL campaign.
Our hosts are now managed by Graham Nicholas, who has had previous stints at Garforth Town, Ossett Town and Parkgate.
The Rec have made some astute signings, with prolific non-league forward Kai Hancock returning to Sheerien Park along with ex-Reds youngsters McCauley Shillito and Jack Briscoe who are still on the books.
