2019/20 Academy Fixtures Released

U23s and U18s Professional Development League fixtures announced

30 July 2019

Fixtures for the upcoming 2019/20 Professional Development League campaign have been released.

Barnsley U23s will begin the new season on Monday 12 August away to Coventry City, who finished the 2018/19 term as runners-up in the south league to earn a play-off place. The Sky Blues were eliminated at the semi-final stage after extra time by eventual winners Leeds United.

Martin Devaney’s first home game will see the Reds welcome Cardiff City to South Yorkshire on Tuesday 20 August. A new addition has seen Wigan Athletic enter the league, with the Latics visiting Oakwell in September.

As always in the Professional Development League, Barnsley will face six local derbies this season, the first of which is against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday 28 October.

Our U23s round of the campaign on Friday 24 April at home to Charlton Athletic.

The following fixtures are scheduled to be played on the main Oakwell pitch:

  • Crystal Palace (2 September 2019)
  • Wigan Athletic (20 September 2019)
  • Leeds United (28 February 2020)
  • Ipswich Town (23 March 2020)
  • Queens Park Rangers (3 April 2020)

Meanwhile, our U18s begin their respective Professional Development League campaign with a trip to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday 17 August.

Adam Murray and Tom Harban’s side welcome Watford to the Oakwell Training Ground on Saturday 24 August for their first home game of the new season, as they look to build on last term’s impressive sixth place finish.

The first of six local derbies will see our U18s host Leeds on Saturday 5 October.

Following the club’s promotion to the Sky Bet Championship, our youngsters will enter the FA Youth Cup at the third round stage, which is scheduled to be played on Saturday 14 December.

The U18s’ final game of the season is away at Cardiff City on Saturday 25 April.

A full list of fixtures will be released in due course. Please note that all fixtures are subject to change.
