Cauley Woodrow – BARNSLEY v Peterborough United – 26th December
Barnsley striker Cauley Woodrow is the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month winner for December, receiving 55% of the public vote.
There was something eerily deliberate about Woodrow’s goal. Every step appeared to be planned from the drift inside from the wing to the imperiously struck shot into the far corner.
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “Barnsley absolutely dominated Peterborough in this 2-0 win which moved them above their opponents into fifth in League One.
“Woodrow’s piledriver secured the win in some style, flying into the top corner from 30-yards.”
Woodrow said: “It is nice to be rewarded for scoring a nice goal and is extra special as I’ve not won anything like this before.
“It all happened so quickly in the build-up, but I remember cutting inside from the left and hearing the crowd shout shoot, so I thought ‘why not’ and thankfully it went it.
“I knew as soon as it left my foot that it was in and it was extra special because all my family had come up from London to watch the game. So to celebrate with them and also help give the Barnsley fans a good victory was special.
“We had a good Christmas and it has set us up nicely into the new year and we know we have a good chance to kick on, but we know the fixtures coming up are very tough and the teams we take on soon in the bottom half of the table will fight for everything. Hopefully we can keep picking up the points and move further up the table.”
Woodrow beat off competition from Doncaster Rover’s John Marquis and Plymouth’s David Fox.
