U23s | PREVIEW: Bolton Vs Barnsley

24 February 2019

Barnsley U23s are looking to continue their fine run of form when they travel to Bolton Wanderers on Monday evening.

The young Reds have lost just one of their last nine Professional Development League outings and can move within one point of the Trotters in fifth place.

While Martin Devaney’s side appear to be clicking through the gears, the exact opposite can be said for Bolton who have lost their last four games – conceding ten goals in the process.

After losing at Oakwell back in September, David Lee’s side then won their next four fixtures but have since gone onto pick up just seven points from their last ten matches.

With eight goals to his name, Luca Navarro will need to be marshalled carefully by the Reds’ backline. The 19-year-old forward has spent time out on loan at Northern Premier League Premier Division side Bamber Bridge this season in a bid to gain more first team experience.

The Trotters may look to utilise Connor Hall, who finished as the Professional Development League top scorer last campaign with 22 goals. That form, much like Victor Adeboyejo’s 17-goal haul, has seen him promoted to the first team this term, although the clinical striker has still featured four times for Wanderers’ U23s.

Victory for Barnsley could see them leapfrog both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday into sixth place, depending on how the Owls fare at home to Birmingham City.

You can find out how our U23s get on by attending the game at the Lancashire County FA, Leyland, PR25 2LF. Alternatively, you can follow updates on our official Academy Twitter account: @AcademyBFC. Kick-off at 7pm.
