Gerhard Struber looks ahead to Millwall trip

Gaffer's pre-match thoughts

21 December 2019

Speaking to the press in midweek, Gerhard Struber called on his players to focus on themselves when they face a Millwall side unbeaten at The Den since mid-September.

“The big aim in this game is to focus on us, and not the atmosphere,” was the clear message from Reds Head Coach, Gerhard Struber as he takes his side to the capital and in-form Millwall in the final Sky Bet Championship clash before Christmas.

“It’s a big game for us against a good opponent." Struber continued.

“They have very good organisation in the defence and they have two strikers in (Tom) Bradshaw and (Jed) Wallace who are a big strength on the counter-attack.

“For us, it is very important to have a big focus on our defence, a good positioning, a good control of the ball, because we can score goals.”

If results go the Reds' way at The Den, a win could see them lifted off the bottom of the table, and Struber believes they are capable of fighting their way clear of the drop zone as he implements his playing style.

“We have the right characters in my squad,” he continued.

“We grow up everyday in training. They are playing my style and the mood is positive.

“We have a big concentration on my style, they listen and develop in training and in every game we have good progress in our process.”

It's the first taste of football at Christmas for the Reds boss.

With most of European football shutting down at this time of year, Struber is excited about the festive football ahead over the next 10 days.

“I think it is crazy but I like it. It is the first Christmas football for me and it will be special. Normally at Christmas, we have free time and family time in Austria but now it is time for football and I like it.

"I would normally be relaxing, or skiing at this time of year. The players will have Christmas Day off for time with the family which is important for the boys ahead of a very important match the next day.

“We have a lot of games and I have a big wish that we have a run of wins. It is good for our self-confidence when we win. The next games are very difficult for us but I have a big conviction that we will get the points we need.”
