U23s | PREVIEW: Bristol City Vs Barnsley

Young Reds looking to record back-to-back wins

26 August 2019

Barnsley U23s are back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Bristol City in the Professional Development League.

The two sides will go head to head at the Robins’ 27,000 capacity stadium, Ashton Gate.

Martin Devaney’s side were impressive in their last outing, brushing Cardiff City aside 3-1 at the Oakwell Training Ground thanks to two fine strikes from Elliot Simoes either side of Tommy Willard’s opportunistic finish.

City, on the other hand, were just as impervious last week as they claimed an emphatic 4-1 victory at PDL newcomers Wigan Athletic with Jonny Smith, Hakeeb Adelakun, Freddie Hinds and Louis Britton all getting on the scoresheet.

That was enough to help the Robins bounce back from an opening day loss at home to Nottingham Forest.

Barnsley have won their last two meetings with City, triumphing 2-0 at Oakwell last season courtesy of a Matty Wolfe double on the penultimate day.

Prior to that, the young Reds rounded off their 2017/18 campaign in style with a 4-2 victory at Failand. Victor Adeboyejo scored twice in the first half, while composed strikes after the interval from Amir Berkovits and Willard sealed a deserved three points.

You can find out how Martin Devaney’s side fare by attending the fixture at Ashton Gate, kick-off at 1pm.
