Injury Update

Chris Stern discusses Reds absentees

29 August 2019

During his pre-match press conference, Chris Stern gave an update on the Reds’ players currently side-lined through injury.

Both Sami Radlinger and Bambo Diaby picked up knocks in the 3-1 defeat against Luton Town on Saturday, and the Barnsley First Team Coach has confirmed that our Austrian goalkeeper will be out until at least December.

“It’s a ligament injury in his knee, which means he will be out for a while unfortunately,” said Stern. “We’re lucky to have two very good goalkeepers and Brad [Collins] is very confident in training. We feel confident to have them and we’re not afraid of the weekend.”

Diaby hobbled from the pitch midway through the second half following a collision with James Bree. The defender will miss Barnsley’s Sky Bet Championship trip to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

“We hope to have him back after the international break, but we’ll see how the next two or three weeks will go,” continued Stern.

Stern is also hopeful that Cauley Woodrow will be available after the international break having missed the Reds’ last two outings. The medical department will continue to monitor his recovery over the next couple of weeks until the resumption of domestic football.

There is also better news for Jordan Williams and Jacob Brown, who are nearing a return to full fitness following their respective lay offs.

“Jordan Williams will probably be out for the weekend,” confirmed the Reds' First Team Coach. “Jacob Brown is on his way back and he will most likely be back after the international break.”

Kenny Dougall remains Barnsley’s only other long-term absentee.
