Mike Bähre says that the team want to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing performance, asserting that his side can play at a much higher level.
The Reds’ 29-game unbeaten home run in the league came to an end as Luton Town claimed a 3-1 victory at Oakwell following a blistering start.
Barnsley were 3-0 down inside 30 minutes and the display was far away from the players and coaching staff’s expectations, but the second half provided several positives the team could take away.
“Everyone was disappointed,” admitted Bähre. “We were all surprised to concede so early after four minutes and I think our heads went down. We weren’t at our best in the first half but I believe we showed a good reaction in the second and that is a positive.
“The Championship is going to be tough. What we’ve learned is that mistakes get punished in this league. We need to be at 100% every single game, work hard and fight for every ball right to the end. We’re still very confident.”
Barnsley have managed to pick up four points from their opening five games back in the Championship, but Daniel Stendel’s side have perhaps been a bit unfortunate not to have added a few more to the tally.
An away trip to Wigan Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship is next on the horizon as the Reds look to get back to winning ways, and it’s one that the players understand is an important game even at this early stage of the season.
“Considering the last few, this is a very important game,” insisted Bähre. “But every game is going to be important. It would be good to get a win before the international break.
“We just have to be switched on right until the end.”
