We're All Set For The Junior Takeover

Have you ever wanted to know what it is like to work at Oakwell on a matchday? Have you ever wanted to get behind the scenes and experience things that fans could only dream of?

Hundreds entered, but now Barnsley FC are delighted to introduce a number junior fans ahead of Friday’s fixture, who will help out in various departments – here’s what they’ll be doing and where you’ll be able to see/hear them.

iFollow Commentators – Matthew & Daniel

These two Junior Reds will be based in the West Stand with the Barnsley FC media team, rubbing shoulders with commentators from the BBC and talkSPORT! You’ll be able to hear their commentary on our highlights package the next day. Those videos will be published on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter!

Kit Assistant – Zach 

It’s unlikely that you’ll see Zach during the day, as all of his work will be completed within the realms of the first team dressing room before the players arrive! Given an access all areas pass, Zach will be responsible for ensuring that players kit is set out in the correct position and style, as well as placing the right boots with the right players space.

Stadium Announcer – Oliver 

It’s been done on numerous occasions this season, with junior supporters announcing the line-ups, however, Oliver has got the gig all day! Working alongside our senior Stadium Announcer, Oliver will be ‘the voice of Oakwell’, making numerous announcements, reading out the teams and watching the match from the PA Room!

Club Journalist – Olivia

Olivia will come into action after the full-time whistle! Whilst all fans head home at 5pm, our Club Journalist will be down in to the tunnel, teaming up with reporters from Sky Sports and the BBC to interview Daniel Stendel and a chosen player! Olivia’s interviews will be published across our social media platforms at a later date.

Junior Referee - Ben

This Junior Red will not only get to meet the team of officials pre-match, but will also be given the opportunity to warm up and walk out with Scott Oldham before taking part in the all important 'coin toss'. 

Grounds Assistant – Matthew, Harry & Reuben

One of the most important jobs on a matchday has fallen to the trio of Matthew, Harry and Reuben. They will assist Dave Anderson and his grounds team, throughout the course of the afternoon. Arriving at 12.30pm, the three boys will be given plenty to do, including setting out of the corner flags and painting the white lines on the Oakwell turf. 

You’ll be able to see the boys in action pre-match and at half-time, replacing divots, making sure the pitch is suitable for match action!

Digital Media Assistant – Denam 

Everything captured on camera throughout the day, will come from Denam. Working alongside the Club Media Team, Denam will be pitchside on numerous occasions, capturing clips pre-match. As well as giving his opinions on the game via our social media commentary, Denam will also write is own match-report, which will be set live on our website after full-time!

Junior First Team Player - Ellis 

Ellis will live his dream. He will spend the game following in the footsteps of his heroes and put on that famous red strip as a member of Daniel Stendel's matchday squad.
