U23s | PREVIEW: Barnsley Vs Bristol City

3 April 2019

Barnsley U23s face Bristol City in their penultimate fixture of the 2018/19 Professional Development League campaign on Friday.

Martin Devaney’s side are currently sixth in the table and are unbeaten in their last ten outings – with just one defeat in 14 games since November.

The young Reds will also take to the main Oakwell pitch for their final home match of the season, and will have confidence knowing that they have emerged victorious on the last two occasions in the main stadium.

Both Crewe Alexandra and Bolton Wanderers were put to the sword back in September, 4-2 and 1-0, respectively. However, Barnsley have fared relatively well in stadium fixtures this season, winning at both Sheffield Wednesday and Colchester United and claiming a hard-fought draw with Millwall last time out.

Like the Reds, City are sixth in the south league but are in indifferent form heading into this encounter. Luke Williams’ side have lost four of their last five outings having previously won four consecutive games.

The Robins will be looking to top scorer Ricardo Rees, who has eight goals to his name this campaign, while U18s striker Sam Bell has also contributed to the cause with seven goals.

Barnsley ran out 4-2 winners the last time the two sides met on the final day of the 2017/18 season. Victor Adeboyejo netted twice for the visitors at City’s training ground, while Amir Berkovits and Tommy Willard were also on target in a convincing triumph. The only previous meeting was a 1-1 draw in Bristol back in September 2016.

You can watch the U23s for FREE at Oakwell on Friday in the West Stand ONLY, kick-off at 2pm. Alternatively, you can keep up to date with the action via our official Academy Twitter account: @AcademyBFC.
