Junior Takeover Day Returns!

4 April 2019

Barnsley FC's annual Junior Takeover Day will take place on Friday 19th April (Good Friday) at Oakwell, as Barnsley host Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One.

The Reds are set to welcome a host of new faces later this month, as a number of  junior supporters are given a unique opportunity to work alongside their heroes for the day.

The first Takeover Day proved to be a hit amongst junior participants and staff alike, with Finance and Operations Director, Rob Zuk glad of the help.

"The set of junior supporters that we welcomed to Oakwell in 2018 were fantastic. I know each head of department's feedback was positive and we're certainly hoping for the same again this year.

"As a Club, we know that a number of our younger supporters will have dreams to work in professional sport when of a certain age. Hopefully this set of activities will go someway to further fuel those ambitions".

Fans between the ages of 6-14 can apply for one of seven roles;

-       Stadium Announcer

Shadowing the Stadium Announcer, one Junior Red will be on the mic, announcing the team news at 2.30pm and will have a unique view of the match from the PA Room!

-       Commentator

These Junior Reds will be based in the West Stand, with the Barnsley FC media team, rubbing shoulders with commentators from the BBC and TalkSport! Their commentary will be heard on the highlights package the following day.

-       Digital Media Assistant

This individual will be a key figure across all of Barnsley FC's digital platforms. Throughout the match, they'll be updating Social Media, distributing team sheets to the press, writing a match report, and taking in post-match interviews.

-       Grounds Assistant (x2)

It's a tough job, meaning there will be two positions available! Pre-match, young supporters will be expected to assist marking out the lines and penalty spots as well as ensuring all corner flags are in the correct position.

Watching the match from the West Stand, at half-time it's back to work! Assisting the grounds team, these individuals will help repair the pitch ready for the second set of 45 minutes.

-         Kit Assistant

This job is completely behind the scenes, with all of the work completed pre-match, within the realms of the first team dressing room. With an access all areas pass, this one individual will be responsible for ensuring players' kit is set out in the correct position and style, whilst also pairing the right boots with the right player.

-      Club Journalist

This role comes to the fore after full-time. As supporters head home, the Club Journalist will meet Daniel Stendel and a chosen player, getting their thoughts on the result, alongside individuals from Sky Sports and the BBC. Those interviews will be published across all Barnsley FC social media platforms later that evening.

-       PLUS three additional roles to be released later

Keep your eyes peeled for the release of these three additional positions, closer to the day of the game.

All participants will be given a special 'Junior Takeover' t-shirt and a certificate of participation once the specific task has been completed.

To stand a chance of taking part, please fill in the following form and select a role*. The Club will be in touch once they have reviewed every application.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 11th April.

Good luck!
