PREVIEW: Barnsley Vs Burton Albion

21 September 2018

The Reds are back on home soil this Saturday, with Burton Albion visiting Oakwell in Sky Bet League One action!

Following last Saturday’s first defeat of the season, away at Coventry City, Daniel Stendel will be looking for a sharp reaction from his young side when The Brewers come to town.

Jordan Willis' late header in the Midlands condemned the Reds to defeat last weekend, ending their seven-game unbeaten league run into the bargain.

That 1-0 reverse hasn’t knocked the confidence of the Reds squad however, as full-back Dani Pinillos explained when he faced the press this week.

With both Zeki Fryers and Ryan Hedges back in full training after their respective injury lay-offs, Stendel’s options have therefore increased and he might well look to change things up as he looks to get his side back to winning ways.

The Reds gaffer spent over 30 minutes with the press this week in his pre-match press conference where he dissected the performance at the Ricoh Arena, discussed plans moving forward and of course this Saturday’s upcoming Sky Bet League One fixture against Burton.

It's been an up and down start to life back in the third tier for The Brewers, with fine wins over Aston Villa in the cup and Doncaster Rovers in the league punctuated with disappointing defeats against Gillingham and Oxford United.

However, they’re currently enjoying a three-game unbeaten run with last weekend’s terrific victory away at Sunderland the pick of the Sky Bet League One results.

Managed by club legend Nigel Clough who’s now spent 24 years at the Pirelli Stadium in various spells as both manager and player, The Brewers will be coming to Oakwell with confidence flowing right now, and Clough told the press this week that there’s a relaxed mood in camp.

"I think there's more pressure (to go up) on Sunderland and Barnsley and some of the teams, Portsmouth and Peterborough United, that have spent the money in the summer," he said.

"That's one thing, we are a little bit more relaxed at the moment. Now we've got a few points on the board, we're playing good football and knocking it about.

"We'll try to do the same at Barnsley.”

The last time Barnsley met Burton Albion at Oakwell was in February of this year, it was former Head Coach José Morais’ first match in charge. Despite a very one-sided second half, the Reds couldn’t turn the game on its head, falling to a 2-1 defeat as both sides fought - unsuccessfully - to stay in the Sky Bet Championship.
