Thiam: "It was another important step."

Goalscorer's reaction to Luton victory

15 October 2018

Reds forward Mamadou Thiam reacted to Saturday's latest Sky Bet League one victory.

After scoring his fourth goal of the season for the Reds, Senegalese forward Mamadou Thiam described that strike as probably the best he's scored for the club.

Not known for scoring anything but quality goals really, Saturday's late effort that flew into the top corner was a strike that won Goal of the Weekend on Sky Sports as well as getting the nod by the EFL.

Thiam admitted it was a special goal, telling us: "I think it's the best. My best goal, maybe. It was certainly a great goal.

"I saw the position of the goalkeeper and I thought that if I shoot it hard like that, he wouldn't be able to do anything.

"But I'm really happy that it helped us win the game because that is important."

Mama felt that Barnsley deserved all three points against Luton and suggested that to get back to where he and his teammates think they belong, they need to keep on piling up the victories to achieve their aims of promotion back to the Championship.

He told us: "We think we belong in the Championship, so we need to win these games and to stay in the top so that we can get there.

"Today was another important step for us.

"We have a very good squad with players who have lots of abilities and this season under the new coach we are playing a really exciting game that I think suits everyone.

"We are scoring lots of goals and I think everyone is feeling positive about our future."
