Stendel: "We were the better team."

Gaffer's reaction to another victory

14 October 2018

Following yesterday's victory over Luton Town at Oakwell, Reds' Head Coach, Daniel Stendel gave his reaction.

With Barnsley emerging from a five goal thriller with another three points racked up, Daniel suggested the result backed up last weekend's big victory over Peterborough United.

"I think we confirmed the result from last week." Stendel told us.

"We were the better team and once again we created a lot of chances. We were very, very good in possession, and took chances.

"I said to the players before that after a very good performance in the last game, it's very important that we also show the same in this match.

"The players are showing that they're listening, that they learn. It's not just about learning the style, it's about learning with every experience, developing yourself as a player and a person."

The Reds are in great form right now and are gaining plaudits from up and down the country for how they're approaching matches.

Stendel admits that he has to keep his players focused on the objectives set out by himself and his staff and not to get carried away with external noise.

The Head Coach explained, saying: "Because of last weekend, it's a home game, it's a Sky game, the supporters they probably think it will be easy and another win, but it's not like that.

"It is nice to have good things said about what we are trying to do, but we have to concentrate and have the right attitude at all times.

"Luton are a very good team, in good form and it wasn't easy at all.

"I'm really happy that we won."

Without the services of a number of players due to injury or international duty, the gaffer once again had to call upon players who'd not had as much of an opportunity so far this season.

Stendel, as ever, was full of praise for his team and those who stepped up to the plate whilst again reminding everyone that they can't relax for too long.

"We have many good players in this team. It was a chance for some to show that. I think we showed today that we have many options, with good quality.

"It's great that in the final third we can replace quality with quality and that is something that will help us over the course of the season.

"We will rest for a few days now and then we must go to Charlton and again have the right attitude to win the game."
