Stendel: "We lacked something in the final third."

Daniel's post-match reaction

The Head Coach gave us his thoughts on the 2-0 defeat at Charlton.

Barnsley were defeated for only the second time in this 2018/19 Sky Bet League One campaign as hosts Charlton Athletic were 2-0 victors courtesy of Karlan Grant's double.

The Reds Head Coach felt his side lacked a cutting edge in what he believes was still a 'good' performance.

"We lost the game," he told us.

"But it was a good performance from my players. Or, it was until the 18 yard box. We couldn't score, we couldn't get ourselves that chance to affect the result.

"Charlton score with their first attempt after we have them under pressure. Well done, they do well to go a goal in front. But again, we have all the ball possession, we have the ball in dangerous areas, everything until the last kick was what we wanted.

"It wasn't possible for us today, we couldn't score."

The gaffer brought on Kieffer Moore at half time and made other attacking substitutions as he looked to influence the result in a positive fashion.

But the Addicks saw out the victory with their early first and second half strikes.

"They score at the right time. In both halves.

"I think they were good, clever. They used time very well. It was very clear with the stoppages. They know what they were doing.

"But even though we had the ball and we moved through the lines very good, it didn't work for us, we lacked something in the final third.

"We have to move on now to the next game in a few days."
