First Team Fitness Update!

19 October 2018

Andreas Winkler delivered a fitness update ahead of Barnsley’s trip to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The Reds have been without Zeki Fryers since the full-back picked up a knee injury in pre-season, but the Assistant Head Coach has confirmed he is back training with the squad.

“Zeki trained with the team but with a lighter workload – the same with Lloyd Isgrove,” said Winkler. “So, maybe on Friday, we will have the whole team training.”

Summer signing Cauley Woodrow has been hampered by a niggling muscle concern since his arrival at Oakwell, while fellow striker Kieffer Moore hobbled off in the 4-0 victory over Peterborough United earlier this month.

Both forwards are nearing a return to full fitness and are expected to be featuring for the first team shortly.

“We hope that Kieffer and Cauley will be fit to train on Friday; they have been working with our sports scientists and physios all last week,” confirmed Winkler. “We are hopeful, but not so sure.

“They are different kinds of injuries; Kieffer’s is a swollen ankle so we have to see if there’s no risk to play and how his pain is. Cauley has a muscle injury and he has to be at 95% when he trains with our sports scientists – on Wednesday he was at 90%, so he’s close.”

Meanwhile, our international duo Kenny Dougall and Adam Davies have returned to Barnsley with a clean bill of health.

Dougall travelled to Kuwait but was an unused substitute as Australia won 4-0, while Davies’ Wales side beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Dublin in their Nations League fixture.

“Both Kenny and Adam are fit after international duty,” continued Winkler. “I haven’t spoken with Adam, yet, but he will be at training. Kenny trained with us on Wednesday and is in good shape, and he has lots of self-confidence after being with Australia.”
