Williams: "The aim is to get to Wembley."

14 November 2018

Jordan Williams is keen for Barnsley to kick on following their 2-1 victory over Bradford City in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday evening.

The Reds secured safe passage to the knockout phase courtesy of a George Moncur brace, and the young full-back insists the goal is to go all the way.

“The aim was to get to the next round and the main aim is to get to Wembley, so we need to keep going and see where it can take us,” said Williams. “The club has done well in the past so, hopefully, we can do that this year.”

More important for Williams was the much needed game time. The 19-year-old has played in all three group games, but hasn’t featured in the league since Barnsley won 4-0 at Rochdale back in August.

However, the Reds’ summer signing is happy to continue working hard on the training ground in order to force his way into more regular first team contention.

“We’ve got a very good squad, in depth, so it’s good for everyone to get minutes under their belts and show the gaffer that everyone is ready,” continued Williams. “It will keep pushing everyone to get better.

“It’s good for myself to get minutes under my belt and for the gaffer to see me other than in training. The gaffer is showing that anyone can play; it doesn’t matter how old you are – he’ll give you a chance. It’s up to you whether you take it or not.”
