Barnsley Head Coach José Morais is confident that his side can achieve a positive result in the final game of the season at Derby County.
The Reds travel to Pride Park on Sunday knowing that victory will guarantee their Championship survival, regardless of what happens elsewhere.
“We have been playing against the odds and I believe it is possible to win against the odds,” said Morais. “The work is about being consistent in order for you to repeat the best performances consistently during the season. I’m working in order to achieve this.
“I believe what we’re doing is very good and the seeds are there, and I’m hoping everything will come out like they did in the last game.
“My biggest wish is that the players that I believe in so much can really show their potential and their best. The only thing that I want to see from them is to succeed.”
A point for Gary Rowett’s side will be enough for them to seal a top six finish, ensuring that they compete in the play-offs as they aim to reach the Premier League for the first time since the 2007/08 campaign.
That result could also see Barnsley beat the drop, depending on results at Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End.
However, the Reds’ Head Coach is solely concentrating on his team and insists he believes in the players’ potential.
“They are a good opponent, but my focus is on my team and what we can do,” continued Morais. “We are a good team with good players and we have a strong belief about what we can do. This is what I want to focus on.
“I have a lot of expectations and one of them is to achieve what we want from the game, which is to win. I believe that we can do it and I believe that my players believe that they can do it, and this is what makes me happy.
“I know what I need to know about Derby County but, as I said before, I don’t focus on the potential of Derby County - I focus on our potential.”
