AWARDS | Williams: "I'll probably never score another like it."

2 May 2018

Midfielder Joe Williams spent much of the season on-loan at Oakwell from Premier League club Everton, until an injury recently cut that spell short.

The 21-year-old made 38 appearances for the Reds and it was his solitary goal for the Club in the match at Burton Albion that saw him win the Goal of the Season award.

It was the third goal in the 4-2 victory at the Pirelli Stadium, a 25-yard screamer on his weaker left foot, and the young scouser spoke of his delight at receiving the coveted award.

“I’m absolutely buzzing!” he told us.

“Thank you to the fans who voted for me, it was a really special moment and probably one that will stay with me forever.

“In all honesty I didn’t even see it go in. I’ve took a chance, I’ve hit it and the next second I’m getting clattered by their lad and I’m on the floor. I only knew it’d gone in when I heard the fans behind the net screaming and cheering.

“I’ll probably never score another like it!”

Now back with Everton at Goodison Park, Williams wanted to thank everyone at Barnsley Football Club for their support during his stay this season.

“It’s been my first season out playing proper football and been a great experience," continued Williams. "The fans were superb with me, I’ve had some great messages recently and I loved the craic with the lads in the changing room.

“I wish the lads all the best in the last game, I’ll be cheering the Reds on!”
