U23s PREVIEW: Bolton Vs Barnsley

12 March 2018

Barnsley U23s travel to Bolton Wanderers on Monday night looking to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat at Hull City a fortnight ago.

The young Reds have lost their last three games since claiming a 0-0 draw at Everton in the Premier League Cup, but performances from Paul Harsley’s side have been encouraging despite the results.

Wanderers are top of the Professional Development League, but come into this fixture on the back of a shock 1-0 defeat at Crewe Alexandra. Prior to that setback, David Lee’s side had lost only one of their last 14 games in all competitions - winning 11 of those.

Connor Hall will be the one to watch at the Macron Stadium; the Whites’ striker leads the scoring charts with 16 goals and made his first team debut in Bolton’s 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup third round earlier this season.

The 20-year-old has also been an unused substitute for Phil Parkinson’s side on two occasions back in November for the Trotters’ Championship clashes with Norwich City and Preston North End.

However, Barnsley have a deadly striker of their own in the shape of Victor Adeboyejo, who has 13 goals to his name for Harsley’s side this campaign.

Adeboyejo was on target twice against Bolton earlier this season at the Oakwell Training Ground as the Reds raced into a three goal lead after Louis Wardle had opened the scoring.

But a brace from Hall and strikes from Adam Mitchell and Jeff King secured an incredible turnaround from the visitors as they claimed a 4-3 victory back in December.

Kick-off is at 7pm, and tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
