Daniel Stendel On Coaching Staff.

8 June 2018

Following the announcement of the staff joining the coaching team at Barnsley Football Club, Daniel Stendel explained the reason behind his appointments.

Andreas Winkler and Chistopher Stern have been appointed Assistant and First Team Coach to work alongside the new Head Coach as the Reds look ahead to the 2018/19 season. Speaking to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Stendel gave details of the working relationship he has built with both men throughout their careers.

“Andreas and myself did the UEFA Pro License course together at the DFB and have been in contact since. Andreas used to work as a manager and also a Sporting Director, and wanted to hire me as coach once. He also worked in an academy, so has good knowledge of the academy system in England as well. His experience and knowledge of the style we want to play will help everyone I believe.

“Christopher used to be one of my players when I was the academy coach and then joined me in my coaching team at the academy, so he knows my philosophy inside out – the way I want to play from being a player, and what I expect as a staff member. He’s young, motivated and will be a good part of our coaching staff.”

As well as bringing his own men to Oakwell, Stendel will also be looking to use the experience and knowledge of the coaching staff that are currently in the building.

“It’s important that the people here understand that I’m not coming with a bunch of German coaches to change everything. I need the local guys, and I’ve already spoken with Bobby [Hassell] and I think he will have an important role in helping me within different areas.

“I haven’t worked in this league before, so I will look to gain as much knowledge from the guys inside the building as possible. This is a Club that needs to work together and absolutely everyone can be part of this journey, we all have something to offer in this process and I want us to share our knowledge together.”

With pre-season yet to get underway, Daniel spoke of the preparations he can make by watching videos, having conversations and planning ahead.

“I have seen some videos from last season already, knowing that some players have left. It’s important to have a good conversation with the people who are in charge. I have a certain idea about the team but there might be some changes to be made, but there will be a conversation with Gauthier regarding decisions to be made on players. I have now the time to make my own plans as well so when we get back everyone can understand quickly."
