Barnsley 4-1 Doncaster Rovers | 4 October 2008

21 June 2018

The fixtures for 2018/19 have been released! We host Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 24 November, before travelling to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday 16 March. We look back at a classic clash at Oakwell from the 2008/09 season.

Barnsley came into this Yorkshire derby having not won in their previous five outings, and fell behind to Brian Stock’s 11th minute penalty.

Things went from bad to worse for Simon Davey’s side, who had Darren Moore sent off for a straight red card as he hauled down Lewis Guy when clean through on goal just four minutes after half-time.

But the Reds produced a stunning comeback, and were level when Steve Foster scrambled home from close range just five minutes later.

On the hour mark, Jamal Campbell-Ryce scored one of the great Barnsley goals as he picked the ball up from Heinz Müller’s quick throw and embarked on a mesmeric run from inside his own half before curling a magnificent shot beyond Neil Sullivan.

Jon Macken was then on hand to put Barnsley 3-1 up as he reacted quickest to the rebound after Sullivan had saved Martin Devaney’s effort.

With just three minutes remaining, Iain Hulme completed the turnaround as he fired an unstoppable strike into the top corner to round off a sensational second half display from the Reds.

Barnsley went on to finish the Championship campaign in 20th – six places and six points behind Rovers.
