Reds youngster Victor Adeboyejo gave iFollow his reaction following the 7-1 victory over York City in pre-season.

It was a resounding win at Bootham Crescent for Barnsley on Tuesday night, seven goals scored in the second pre-season friendly of the summer and Nigerian striker Victor Adeboyejo was understandably proud to grab himself a goal in the second half.

"It's great to get a goal," he told us post-match.

"And as a team I thought we played well. We kept the ball moving, trying to control the game. We're obviously trying to implement what the manager has been teaching us over the few weeks we've been with him.

"We're pressing high, then counter-pressing as well. The boys are trying to understand what the manager wants us to do, so a big win like that shows we're getting it. A result and performance tonight is really good for us going forward."

After a prolific season last time out in the U23s squad, Victor now believes he's ready to step up and force his way into Daniel Stendel's thinking as a first team option.

Grabbing a goal in games like this one is the perfect way to stake a claim and he spoke of his ambitions as a Reds player ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

He told us: "As a young player your goal is to try and be better than some of the other players ahead of you. We all strive to be our best. It's nice for me to get the goal and get pre-season underway. And there's hopefully more to come.

"I've not found it frustrating playing U23s. It's about biding your time and understanding what the manager wants from you, what he's wanting you to do. I'm just making sure I'm ready when called upon to go out there and be successful for the team."
