Midfielder leaves Oakwell on a permanent deal for undisclosed fee.
Barnsley Football Club can confirm that 22-year-old Stevie Mallan has joined Scottish Premier League side Hibernian FC, after one season at Oakwell.
Mallan joined the Reds at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, making his full first team debut on Boxing Day in a 0-0 draw with Preston North End at Oakwell. The midfielder went on to make a further eight appearances in a Reds’ shirt.
Moving to Easter Road on a four-year contract, Mallan leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Oakwell.
Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye commented on the transfer: “Stevie had one year remaining on his deal with us which meant we needed to make a decision on his future. Daniel is satisfied with his options in this position and the different qualities he has in this area, so when Stevie expressed a desire to go back to Scotland we knew it was a deal that could happen. Despite a small amount of game time with us, a profit has been made on the deal and we will retain an interest in Stevie’s future.”
