19-year-old defender puts pen to paper on a one-year deal.
Louis Wardle has extended his stay at Oakwell until the end of the 2018/19 season.
Wardle, another graduate of the academy system at Oakwell, has impressed his coaches and been rewarded for his progress. Barnsley-born, Wardle knows all too well the attitude and desire needed to play for the Reds. Another versatile individual, he has played in different positions but can mainly be seen operating down the right-hand-side of the field either in defence or midfield.
A previous member of matchday first team squads, Louis will now be hoping to go one-step further and get onto the pitch ahead of the upcoming season.
Wardle gave his thoughts to barnsleyfc.co.uk: “I’m happy to have signed for another year; I’ve been at the Club for over ten years now so it’s nice to be offered a new contract. I want to try and push forward now. This has been my Club from a young age, I’ve always played here and never really anywhere else.
“From under 23s to some first team levels there’s not a lot of difference, physicality-wise, but I feel like last season could have gone better individually and as a team. Hopefully this will be another good season and I’ll look to progress and push on to get into the first team.”
