Barnsley U23s will resume their pre-season schedule with a friendly against Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Friday evening.
The Wells currently compete in the ninth tier of the English football pyramid and finished sixth last season – 24 points outside the automatic promotion places.
Wayne Benn’s side were one of the most potent teams in the division during the 2017/18 campaign, scoring a remarkable 104 goals – 26 of which were notched by Nash Connolley. The lethal striker went onto bag 29 goals in all competitions for Hemsworth and will be one to watch at the Fitzwilliam Stadium.
However, the Wells conceded 77 goals in 42 outings last season, so there are reasons for Martin Devaney to be optimistic and the young Reds will no doubt be looking to exploit these defensive frailties on Friday evening.
Barnsley will again be without injured trio Jake Greatorex, Romal Palmer and Matty Wolfe for this encounter, but new signings Jordan Barnett, Tai-Reece Chisholm and Elvis Otim will be aiming to build on their impressive displays against Athersley Rec last week.
You can watch the events unfold from 7pm at the Fitzwilliam Stadium, Wakefield Road, Fitzwilliam, Pontefract, WF9 5AJ or, alternatively, you can follow proceedings on our official Academy Twitter account: @AcademyBFC.
