25-year-old midfielder signs two-year-deal at Oakwell!
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Kenny Dougall from Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam, for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract, with a further year option in the Reds’ favour.
A deep-lying powerhouse central midfielder, Dougall joins the Reds with a large amount of experience from his playing time in Holland. An ever-present in Sparta’s midfield areas, the former Australian U23 player can generally be found operating the central areas in front of the defence, looking to break up opposition attacks.
As well as being brave on the ball and having the composure to beat a man, Dougall has the ability to use both feet comfortably, showing versatility in the heart of midfield.
He becomes the first signing of the summer in a key position for the Reds.
Speaking to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Head Coach Daniel Stendel offered his thoughts on his new man.
“After meeting with Kenny I am really happy he’s joined the squad.” He stated. “His personality and determination stood out to me from a mile and he’s the type of player we need at Barnsley. This squad is talented, we just needed to add something extra and I know Kenny can be the useful help we need in the midfield.
"We know his qualities at intercepting the ball and pressing the opposition, as well as his positional awareness to protect our defence. Both his personality and ability suit us, so I’m looking forward to him joining the squad.”
Upon completing the signing of a player the Club has wanted throughout the summer, Reds’ Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye commented: “Our recruitment department has been following Kenny for the last 12 months or so. They have worked exceptionally hard on finding out as much information as possible and producing reports. We presented Kenny’s profile to Daniel [Stendel] as soon as he arrived to the Club and he quickly became the club’s number one summer target.
“It’s a great deal and we’re happy to get it over the line, he’ll be a superb addition to what is already a strong squad.”
