18-year-old is rewarded with his first pro-deal.
Cameron Simpson is the latest member of Martin Devaney’s U23s squad to commit his future for the forthcoming season. Signing a one-year deal, the 18-year-old will begin his first full season in the U23s, having previously played regularly in the U18s.
Simpson was a scholar for the previous two seasons and has worked with Martin Devaney closely in his time over with the U18s, so is a player Devaney that knows well. Like many under the guidance of the former Barnsley winger for the forthcoming season, Simpson is versatile, mainly found on the left-hand-side of the pitch either in defence or midfield.
After signing his deal, Simpson told barnsleyfc.co.uk: “I’m delighted to have signed a contract with Barnsley; I’ve been here a long time – since I was nine – and it’s good to finally get a professional contract with the Club.
“Playing with the under 23s this season will be a different challenge; a lot harder than under 18s football, but I think I’m ready to step up and play.
“I feel like I have a good relationship with Martin and he tries to help me where he can and improve me as a player.”
