19-year-old defender extends his Oakwell stay until 2020.
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce that Ben Williams has signed a new two-year contract. The young left-sided player joined the Reds last summer from Blackburn Rovers and has continually impressed since his arrival.
Playing his football mainly on the left of the back four, Williams can comfortably operate both defensively and offensively when required to do so. Ben’s efforts have caught the attention of new Head Coach Daniel Stendel as the 19-year-old has been fully involved in the first team pre-season thus far.
Capped by Wales at U17 and U19 level, Ben is a real threat from out wide using his pace to beat his opponents and is a very competent one-on-one defender.
Upon signing his new contract, Ben told barnsleyfc.co.uk: “I’m obviously over the moon, I spent last season working hard and hoping for a new contract and luckily it’s paid off. I can’t wait for the season to start now!
“I’m looking to get some game time with the first team this season after making the step up from the U23s, the tempo of the play is a lot faster but I’m getting used to it and now I know I just need to impress the Gaffer.”
