Christoph Knasmüllner Joins The Reds!

31 January 2018

25-year-old Austrian becomes fourth signing of January window.

Barnsley Football Club can confirm the signing of Christoph Knasmüllner from Admira Wacker in the Austrian Football Bundesliga on a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Knasmüllner has been in scintillating form for Admira Wacker so far this season, with 12 goals in 18 appearances including a hat-trick from the central midfield area which has helped the Austrian side up to 4th in the league table.

The goalscoring midfielder has represented some of the world’s biggest teams, with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan as two of his former club’s. A box-to-box style midfielder with the flair to match his energy, Knasmüllner will add European experience and creative quality to Paul Heckingbottom’s central midfield areas.

Beginning his career with Austria Wien in his home nation, the new Reds’ addition was highly sought after and quickly snapped up by German giants, Bayern Munich. A two-year spell in the Bayern Munich II side saw him make 38 appearances, before first team recognition was added after Knasmüllner was named in Bayern Munich’s 2010/11 UEFA Champions League squad.

Italian giants Inter Milan were quick to move for the now 25-year-old after he impressed in Germany. A loan with FC Ingolstadt 04 in the 2. Bundesliga yielded a further 20 appearances before returning to his native Austria with Admira Wacker, adding further first team action and development of his game.

As well as recognition at club level, Knasmüllner has been well capped at international level for Austria, with 26 appearances and 13 goals ranging from U17-U19 levels.
