Recent recruit Connor Mahoney can't wait to get started at Oakwell having joined the Reds on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season.
The former Blackburn Rovers winger came very close to a Barnsley switch just 12 months ago, and he explained to the press why that move didn't come off.
He said: "I was extremely close to signing here last January. It was the closest I've ever come to moving on deadline day, except this time of course!
"But that didn't happen and I ended up playing regularly from then on with Blackburn, and earned a move to the Premier League with Bournemouth last summer.
"But now I'm finally here I can't wait to get started and it's time we climbed up the table."
Opportunities at Bournemouth have been very limited for Connor since making the move down south, but it was something he anticipated.
He now wants to get games under his belt and feels Oakwell is the perfect venue.
"Me and my family knew it'd be hard to break into a Premier League club's side so soon, but we were always thinking more about down the line, a few years or so I can hopefully get in.
"But right now it's about being at Barnsley and showing everyone, including the gaffer down at Bournemouth that I can play at this level or even higher."
