U23s | Preview: Barnsley Vs Charlton

23 August 2018

Barnsley U23s host Charlton Athletic on Friday afternoon looking to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat at Cardiff City on Monday.

The young Reds were reduced to ten men three minutes before the interval when Louis Wardle picked up his second yellow card for a mistimed challenge on Bluebirds’ defender Ciaron Brown.

Second half strikes from Rhys Healey and substitute Ibrahim Meite ensured the hosts picked up all three points in the Professional Development League clash, leaving Martin Devaney’s side ninth in the North League.

Charlton, meanwhile, have drawn their opening two games 1-1 and 2-2 against Crewe Alexandra and Birmingham City, respectively.

Jason Euell’s side were 2-0 up against the Blues on Monday, but were pegged back midway through the first half before the visitors found an equaliser four minutes from time at Sparrows Lane.

The Addicks also have former Barnsley striker Wilberforce Ocran in their ranks after the youngster swapped Oakwell for South London in the summer.

Luke Carey will be the one to watch for Charlton, with the forward scoring in both of his appearances for the U23s this season.

In Tai-Reece Chisholm, the young Reds have a player bang in form at the moment as he scored and assisted during the 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers on the opening day, while also causing Cardiff City numerous problems earlier this week.

The attacking midfielder also had an impressive pre-season tormenting defences and scoring three goals after signing for the Club in the summer.
