Highly-coveted teenager signs for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal from Bury FC.
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce the acquisition of 18-year-old midfielder, Callum Styles who today put pen to paper on a four-year deal, with an option for a further year in the club’s favour, to become Daniel Stendel’s second summer signing.
Both clubs have agreed that Callum will go back to Lancashire with the Shakers later this week on a loan deal until January 2019 where he will then link up with the Reds’ first team squad for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.
The young midfielder made his Bury debut in May of 2016, thus becoming the first footballer born in the 21st century to play in the Football League. He has since made a further 26 appearances for the Gigg Lane outfit, including a standout display at the weekend in Bury’s 1-0 victory over Yeovil Town on the opening day of the Sky Bet League Two season.
Linked with some of the biggest clubs in England ever since his first team breakthrough, Styles joined the Shakers in March of 2016 following his release by Burnley.
Tigerish in the challenge with a wonderful left foot, Styles is a promising central midfielder whose ability to scan the pitch shows real vision for such a young player. Able to get up and down the pitch and pick out runners at speed, Callum has great awareness and makes good decisions in key areas.

Barnsley FC Chief Executive, Gauthier Ganaye was naturally thrilled to secure another gifted youngster ahead of a number of clubs higher up the Football League pyramid.
He told barnsleyfc.co.uk: “We are very pleased to bring another hungry young player into the club. We have worked hard behind the scenes to secure Callum ahead of other interest from clubs in higher divisions.
“We feel Callum will play a big role at Oakwell in the near future but as of right now we believe he is best served by playing regular football at a good level so that his transition once back at Barnsley will be a seamless one.
“Therefore he will stay with Bury, on a short-term loan deal until January. However, where there are no midweek games for Bury he will train a few days with us here at Oakwell, so that too will help him in the long-term.
“This is in the best interests of everyone involved in the deal and we look forward to keeping an eye on him at Gigg Lane.”
Reds Head Coach, Daniel Stendel shared Ganaye’s enthusiasm, telling us: “Callum is a very exciting young midfield player who we believe has a big future. I’m very happy that this deal has been completed, and we look forward to welcoming him and working with him soon.”
