Hat-trick hero Kieffer Moore believes all of the long hours and hard graft on the training ground are paying off.
The Reds’ striker was in scintillating form against Rochdale on Tuesday evening as he got his Sky Bet League One goal scoring account open with a bang at Spotland.
“It’s just one of them where I’m in the right place at the right time,” said Moore. “The gaffer has been telling me to shoot more, so I made it my mission to have as many shots as possible and be in dangerous positions. Thankfully it worked for me and I’ve got a hat-trick.
“It’s something I’ve been working on in training; when I’m in those positions I just need to concentrate, but it’s more about getting in those positions to execute the finish.”
Barnsley have now won three of their opening four league games this season, scoring ten times and conceding none in the process.
Morale is high in the Oakwell camp at the moment and Moore insists the team go into every game believing that they can win.
“It’s massive – everyone is buzzing in there and it’s an unbelievable atmosphere to be in,” continued the Reds’ forward. “We go out, not overly-cocky but we know we’re going to put a great performance on and come away with the three points.
“We need to keep the high intensity going, keep up the high press and continue to take the manager’s words on board.
“Coming down from the Championship, you’re always going to be a contender to go back up. I think we, as a squad, know that and the management do as well and it’s just taking everything the gaffer says on board and executing his game plan.”
Having spent the first half of last season on loan at Rotherham United from Ipswich Town, Moore has experienced the demands of League One football.
It was a prolific stint for the 26-year-old, who scored 13 goals in 22 outings for the Millers before signing for Barnsley in January.
“It’s always my aim to be the top scorer,” insisted Moore. “I proved that last season with Rotherham and there’s no reason I can’t do that here with Barnsley."
