George Moncur had an immediate impact after being brought on as a 68thminute substitute against Bradford City on Saturday. The attacking midfielder instantly made his presence known by getting on the ball, setting off on a tricky run down the wing and playing the ball into the path of the on-rushing Victor Adeboyejo to get the Reds’ second.
Moncur and his teammates controlled the majority of the Yorkshire derby and the midfielder believes the result was an excellent one and gives his side a platform to build upon.
“It was superb, it’s another win for the boys and I think we definitely deserved it from minute one.” Moncur stated. “I couldn’t see the other team scoring and it shows you how much of a good group of lads we’ve got to get two wins from the opening two matches. Playing as well as we are, I think we are now in a good position to push on and be right up there.
“It’s nice to come on and do well but overall, I am more bothered about the result. We’re a team of players that want the same thing so yeah, I am happy with how I came on and did well but as a team it’s onwards and upwards to try and keep winning games.”
Just seven minutes into the match, Barnsley had the lead. An excellent first time cross from Dimitri Cavaré found Tom Bradshaw superbly placed in the box to head home, sending the 2,500 travelling fans from Oakwell into raptures.
“You know what Tom is like, he’s great in the box and a really good player. I’m really pleased for him, he’s one of my really good mates and it was good for him to get an early goal. That set us up for a good basis in terms of the game obviously to come on and set up the second goal, I am pleased with that as well, it’s a great win for the team.”
It’s two games, six points and six goals scored for Daniel Stendel’s side in Sky Bet League One so far. Moncur isn’t shocked by that start but has stated that it shows progression amongst the squad.
“I’m not surprised but I don’t think we’ve done that in the past. To start off like that last week and do it again against Bradford shows how far we’ve come on in such a short space of time. I’m sure if we can continue to put performances in like that we can to push and look to get promoted.”
