18-year-old joins the Reds from Premier League side Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee.
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Williams on a four-year contract, becoming Daniel Stendel’s third summer signing, adding to an already strong squad.
The defender, who predominantly plays on the right-hand-side, will begin training with the Reds immediately ahead of the Yorkshire derby with Bradford City this weekend
After being capped at England U17 level six times, Jordan was asked to represent England U18s at the age of 16, playing a further two times and continuing to impress for his country.
During the 2017/18 campaign, Williams relished the opportunity of going out on loan and joined Bury FC where he gained nine games of vital League One experience. The new-signing played alongside Callum Styles at Bury, who also joined the Reds this week.
Reds Head Coach Daniel Stendel wanted Jordan to become part of his squad as soon as he knew of his availability, he stated to barnsleyfc.co.uk: “Jordan will bring something a bit different to the squad and I am happy to have him in my side. He’s very fast and clever, this is the type of player that can play how we want to play and by signing a long contract he has committed to our project here. We know he will come in and work hard and learn our style.”
Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye was delighted to secure another exciting young player to an already strong squad.
He said: “Jordan has chosen to join us and we’re really happy with that. He joins at a time where there is competition for places and he’s looking forward to that. He’s a young player that has gone out and searched for Football League experience, so we kept an eye on his progress and we’re now really pleased to have signed him. His pace and power down the sides will fit Daniel’s style well and we now look forward to seeing him in the squad.”
