Barnsley Football Club can announce that dates for two of our Checkatrade Trophy fixtures for the 2018/19 campaign have been confirmed.
The Reds, who won this competition in 2016, will travel to Boundary Park to face Oldham Athletic on Tuesday 4 September, kick-off at 7:30pm.
Relegated last season, Frankie Bunn’s side are currently 12th in Sky Bet League Two following their 3-1 victory over local rivals Macclesfield Town at the weekend.
The two sides met in this competition back in 2014 where Barnsley came from 2-0 down to force a penalty shoot-out, but were eventually eliminated on spot-kicks.
Since that defeat, the Reds have won all four encounters against the Latics with goalkeeper Adam Davies the only survivor from the last meeting in April 2016.
Daniel Stendel’s side will also host Bradford City on Tuesday 13 November in a 7:30pm kick-off.
Barnsley welcome the Bantams to Oakwell looking to inflict another defeat on our Yorkshire neighbours following the 2-0 victory at Valley Parade earlier this season.
We last met Bradford in this competition back in October 2015, when goals from Marley Watkins and Alfie Mawson either side of the interval saw the Reds come from 1-0 down to secure safe passage to the next round.
In fact, our overall domestic cup record against the Bantams makes particularly pleasant reading, with our Yorkshire rivals not eliminating us from tournament football since an FA Cup tie in December 1973.
Since then, Barnsley have won two FA Cup clashes, a League Cup fixture and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy encounter three years ago.
Following that victory, the Reds went onto beat York City, Wigan Athletic, Fleetwood Town and then Oxford United to hold the trophy aloft at Wembley Stadium.
The date for our home game against Everton U23s is yet to be scheduled. Details will be released in due course.
