U23s | PREVIEW: Coventry City vs Barnsley

23 April 2018

Barnsley U23s travel to Coventry City on Monday afternoon in their penultimate fixture of the Professional Development League season.

The young Reds are four points behind their previous opponents Burnley, following the Clarets’ 3-0 win at Oakwell on Friday afternoon.

Like Barnsley, the Sky Blues have also had a slump in form with just one win in their last 11 league outings - a 3-1 victory over Colchester Untied in February.

During that run, Jason Farndon’s side have conceded 24 goals - a quarter of which came in a 6-1 thrashing at Charlton Athletic last month.

The Sky Blues were also beaten in their last match by Burnley as the Clarets claimed a 2-0 win in Lancashire last Monday.

Despite being on a winless run that stretches back to the end of January, performances from Paul Harsley’s side have been encouraging given the fact that the team contains a number of trialists with a view to preparing for next season, as well as most of the regular U23s side being out on loan across the Football League.

You can see how the young Reds get on by attending the clash with Coventry at the Alan Higgs Centre. Kick-off is at 1pm.
