Barnsley U23s host Burnley at Oakwell on Friday afternoon in what is their final home game of the campaign.
The young Reds were pegged back in their last outing against Cardiff City when the visitors scored an equaliser eight minutes into stoppage time.
It was cruel on Paul Harsley’s side, who had defended resolutely after taking the lead through Victor Adeboyejo’s coolly converted penalty late in the second half.
Burnley, coached by former Clarets and Northern Ireland defender Michael Duff, come into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Coventry City.
That victory saw his side climb off the bottom of the Professional Development League North table at the expense of Barnsley, who are currently on a ten game winless run.
Performances have been encouraging from the young Reds, despite their matchday squads consisting of several trialists as preparation for next season continues.
The Clarets came out on top in the last encounter between the two sides as Olatunde Bayode scored the only goal back in November.
With four goals to his name this campaign, the young English forward is Burnley’s joint top scorer at this level along with Dwight McNeil.
In Adeboyejo, the young Reds have one of the Professional Development League’s top marksmen. His goal on Monday took his tally to 14 for the season, making the young Nigerian the joint second deadliest striker in the division - seven behind Bolton Wanderers’ Connor Hall.
Victory for Barnsley against Burnley on Friday afternoon will see Harsley’s side leapfrog the Clarets with just two games of the campaign remaining.
