BE RED has spoken exclusively to star striker Oli McBurnie and we can reveal some of what Oli had to say ahead of the big match with Bolton Wanderers!
With seven goals to his name since arriving on loan from Swansea City in the January transfer window, Oli McBurnie has rapidly become a prominent figure in the Barnsley squad.
The 21-year-old forward has endeared himself to the Oakwell faithful by scoring in both local derbies as the Reds picked up a crucial four points against their South Yorkshire rivals.
Victory against Sheffield United last weekend was Head Coach José Morais first at home, and McBurnie believes that the fans played their part in helping the team get across the line.
“I think, when we’ve got the crowd behind us like they were last Saturday - like they have been all season, especially at home - it gives us a massive boost; it’s like a twelfth man out there and we need that from them,” said the forward.
“There’s a few more games to go and every little bit that they can give us we’ll lap up, and it gives us that bit of an advantage. So I know they’ll be out there against Bolton in numbers, loud as ever, and giving us that little boost that we need.
“If you ask any footballer, you try not to focus on the crowd, but, for example, the two Yorkshire derbies that I’ve played in, you can’t help but notice how loud they are and it does give you that little boost when there’s a tackle or a run and it get’s everyone up - it sends goosebumps down your spine and that’s what we need.
“Every little boost that we can get we need, and I’m sure they’ll be out there in force.”
