Loan Round-Up

16 April 2018

Keeping you updated on how our players out on loan are getting on at their respective temporary homes…

It was a good weekend for both of our on loan League One players, with CAMERON MCGEEHAN and ALEX MOWATT both helping their teams to valuable three points.

Midfielder McGeehan was introduced for the last quarter of an hour as Scunthorpe United held on to claim a priceless 1-0 victory against play-off rivals Charlton Athletic.

The 23-year-old has made ten appearances for the Iron since joining in January. That result - their first win since 3 February - means Nick Daws’ side leapfrog the Addicks and climb to fifth in the table.

At the Kassam Stadium, Mowatt played 79 minutes as Oxford beat Southend United 2-0 to boost their survival hopes.

The versatile 23-year-old has been a mainstay in the U’s team since joining on loan at the start of the season and has made 32 appearances for Karl Robinson’s side - scoring three goals.

Oxford are now 17th in League One, five points clear of the bottom four.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t better news for JACOB BROWN at Chesterfield, who were beaten 1-0 by play-off chasing Mansfield Town.

Mal Benning’s goal midway through the second half was enough to inflict a 24th defeat of the campaign on the lowly Spireites, who are bottom of League Two and seven points from safety with five games remaining.

It was a similar story for JARED BIRD at Yeovil Town, who lost 1-0 at home to high-flying Wycombe Wanderers.

However, the 20-year-old midfielder remained on the bench as the Glovers were beaten for the 19th time this season.

SHAUN TUTON did not feature as FC Halifax Town drew 2-2 with Gateshead on Thursday and lost 1-0 against Torquay United at the weekend in the Vanarama National League.
