Morais: "I'm very proud of the team."

30 April 2018

Barnsley Head Coach José Morais says his side is on course to achieve their targets following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Brentford.

Goals from Kieffer Moore and Oli McBurnie in either half saw the Reds move out of the relegation zone with one game left to play, and results elsewhere mean that it will be a five-way battle for survival as the Championship season reaches its climax on Sunday.

“At the moment, we are in the Championship next season and, on Sunday, I want to reaffirm this,” insisted Morais. “This is what we really want.

“One of our goals was to reward the fans with a happy moment and they always want to come and see the team winning; they want to see the team making an effort.

“We are here not only for us - we are here for our fans and we want to make them happy. The players want to give everything for the Club and the fans.”

Saturday’s victory was only the fifth time that the Reds have picked up all three points at Oakwell this campaign - and the second since Morais’ arrival in February.

However, the Portuguese Head Coach feels that there are games where his side have deserved more and that this result is an indication that Barnsley are moving in the right direction.

“I’m very proud of the team,” said Morais. “The way that we performed was something that I was expecting.

“We deserved to win more than the two times that we did at home while I have been here, and I am happy for the boys, the Club and the fans because the players wanted to reward the fans with a win in our last game here.

“I think they always want it and I remember in some press conferences I said about the effort the players are putting in, the will that they have and I know the quality they have. For some reason, in some moments, they just don’t come out.

“But I believe that the seeds are there and one day things will come out. I believe with time, more days like this can happen here because I believe in their quality and I never stopped believing.”
