Nick Townsend Joins Solihull Moors On Loan.

23 October 2017

Goalkeeper heads to Damson Park for vital first team football.

We can confirm that Nick Townsend has today joined National League side Solihull Moors on a one-month loan deal. The highly-rated young ‘keeper joins The Moors where he will gain essential match sharpness.

Having shown growing potential during his time with the Reds following his arrival in the summer of 2015, the former Birmingham City man has struggled for game time due to the consistency of number one stopper, Adam Davies, making eight first team appearances.

Townsend has expressed a desire to play first team football and the Club feels that this will benefit his progression so granted this request.

The Club has the option of an instant recall on Townsend.

Paul Heckingbottom commented after allowing one of his first team ‘keepers to go out on loan.

“During the pre-season friendlies over the summer and in the U23s side throughout the course of the campaign, Nick has made a string of quality saves and shown his capability to be an excellent goalkeeper. Being on the bench isn’t going to help him improve, he needs games so now the opportunity is there we couldn’t deny him that. We think a lot of Nick as a ‘keeper and his attitude has been first class for someone who has had to watch a lot of football from the sidelines.

“He’s also a Birmingham lad, so to go to Solihull and be close to home whilst gaining some experience is good for us and for him, plus we can have him back straight away if we want to. We’ll be watching his matches closely and I am looking forward to seeing him improve.”

We would like to wish Nick the best of luck with his loan move to Solihull and we will ensure that fans are kept updated with his progress.
