Paul Heckingbottom on last night's defeat at Reading

29 November 2017

The Reds Gaffer spoke to the awaiting media following last night's 3-0 reverse at Reading.

Despite the result and it being the third consecutive defeat without scoring a goal, Heckingbottom believes there were things he took out of the game.

As has been pointed out on numerous occasions, the squad was overhauled in the summer and the players are very inexperienced at the level.

Hecky said: "I still took lots from the game, especially in terms of learning about the players. It's a reminder to everyone of where we are. We recently had that week where we took seven points from nine and everyone was getting carried away. I tried to keep people's feet on the ground.

"We know we've come a long way since the opening game at Bristol, and so with the young players in particular I have to give them a little bit of leeway. We have to understand they're going to be inconsistent.

"However, that tonight wasn't good enough. The goals we conceded were appalling. They were all stoppable. So on Thursday we will be back in and working on that. I might have to work with individuals more closely, more clearly and more simply.

"I saw so much tonight that we won't be seeing again, because I won't have that. A Barnsley side can't have that, not while I'm here anyway."
