U23s REPORT: Huddersfield Town 4-1 Barnsley

20 November 2017

Paul Harsley's youngsters were ruthlessly beaten at a rain-soaked Canalside this afternoon in their PDL encounter.

The hosts took the lead early on when Colin Quaner's cross was helped into the far corner of the net by the blustery conditions, but Barnsley were more than a match for their opponents in the first half with Stevie Mallan, Victor Adeboyejo and Jacob Brown all seeing efforts saved by the Terriers 'keeper.

In awful conditions, the game was dead in a 10 minute spell at the start of the second half when Huddersfield added three further goals.

Joe Lolley made it 2-0 on 47 minutes when his vicious strike from the edge of the box beat Reds 'keeper Matthew Yates with the aid of a deflection.

The Reds responded immediately, Mallan latching on to Adeboyejo's pass to score from 30 yards out with a powerful, curling effort that nestled in the bottom left-hand corner to make it 2-1.

But Lolley completed his hat-trick within the next five minutes, twice running in behind a static Reds backline to beat Yates.

The next half hour was competitive and Mallan went close with a free-kick which was the best chance Barnsley mustered in their attempt to pull the scoreline back.

Harsley's men will be back in action at Oakwell this Friday as Hull City come to town for a 1pm kick off.

FULL TIME: Huddersfield 4-1 Barnsley
