The Reds defender recently signed a new contract to remain at Oakwell until 2019.
Upon signing the deal, MacDonald spoke exclusively to Barnsley player HD.
“I am very happy to have extended my stay, it has been a great experience so far so I’d like to carry that on! It’s a great Club to be at and a great Club for a young defender, you only have to look at the likes of John Stones and Alfie Mawson who are now in the Premier League.”
Having joined the Reds last summer from National League side Torquay United, the 6ft 3’ defender has made a step-up in the footballing pyramid, following in the footsteps of teammates Marc Roberts and Andy Yiadom, which MacDonald feels has helped him.
“It’s definitely a very tough league, the Championship, as you only have to look at the strikers you’re coming up against week in week out, they’re tough and give you a good game each week.
“You look around and there has been some great experience around me. To my right, I’ve got Robbo (Marc Roberts) and to my left I’ve got Yids (Andy Yiadom), then there are other players at other times. They all drive you on and through the match so it has been a great performance this season.
“It’s been great with Robbo, we’re all great friends off the pitch as well so as soon as you cross that line you take it to the pitch and help each other through.”
Angus has particularly enjoyed the big matches both at Oakwell and away from home this season, singling out the wins at home to Leeds and away at Aston Villa as particular highlights.
“It’s been fantastic going to places like Villa away who are considered a big team in this league and pick up three points, then there’s times like when Leeds came here and to pick up three points again was a great experience.”
