The Club can confirm that a substantial fee has been agreed with Birmingham City and Marc Roberts has today completed a permanent transfer to the Blues.
The 26-year-old joined the Reds in 2015 on a free transfer from National League side Halifax Town and went on to enjoy an impressive first season at Oakwell. Roberts was an integral part of the side that won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship via the play-offs.
The Barnsley-born defender then achieved one of his personal accolades in life by captaining the Club from January 2016, until his departure. He leaves Oakwell having made 84 appearances and scoring five goals.
Roberts has also led by example off the pitch, being an exemplary member of the local community that he has grown up in by visiting schools, fans and other local football teams.
We would like to thank Marc for his fantastic efforts whilst at Barnsley Football Club and wish him the very best for his future career.
