Liam Lindsay Signs For The Reds!

22 June 2017

We are delighted to confirm the arrival of 21-year-old Scottish defender, Liam Lindsay to Oakwell on a three-year deal.

The much sought after centre-half has been turning heads across the border with a number of impressive displays in the Scottish Premiership, but the Reds moved quickly and today, confirmed their third major signing of the summer ahead of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Debuting for Partick Thistle’s first team at the tender age of 19, the young Scot furthered his development with loan spells at Scottish League One outfits Alloa Athletic and Airdrieonians.

After a breakout 2015/16 season, Lindsay went from strength to strength and asserted himself as a first team regular for the Thistle. Dominating in the air and comfortable with the ball at his feet, Lindsay continued to excel and his remarkable 2016/17 campaign didn’t go unnoticed by players and managers alike.

With six goals and over 30 appearances for the Firhill side last term, Barnsley’s third signing of the summer was the only player outside of Aberdeen and Celtic to make the Premiership Team of the Year.

Speaking EXCLUSIVELY to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom was delighted to welcome the exciting prospect.

Heckingbottom told us, “It’s fantastic to get this deal for Liam across the line. We’ve added another talented young player to the ranks which is not only exciting for us as coaches, but the fans as well. Despite his age, Liam brings quality experience and will fit in well with the squad. He comes off the back of an exceptional season in Scotland and we believe he will kick on here and only improve himself at Barnsley.”

In an interview with iFollow Barnsley, the Reds’ third summer signing put on record just how pleased he was to join the club, “I’m delighted to be here. I met the Gaffer, he took me into his office and sat down with me outlining his plans for the team, for me and for the Club. I was really impressed with that. It made me feel good knowing he knew what I was about, that he knew my game. Everything was so detailed, it’s a really professional setup and I can’t wait to get started.”
